NEWS: PRESIDENT OBAMA AWARDED THE ‘09 NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

Friday, October 9, 2009

President Obama was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize today. The first African-American to win the White House, Obama was praised by the Norweigan Nobel Committee for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” The announcement came as a surprise — Obama’s name had not been mentioned among front-runners — and reporters in the room gasped when he was named.

Here is what was said about The President at the announcement event:

“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said. “His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.”

New A-Team Movie

Chuch Liddell paired with Anna Trebunskaya for Dancing with the Stars

The former UFC lightheavyweight champ is going to a member of the upcoming cast of "Dancing with the Stars". The ABC show is going into its ninth season, and Liddell is on a cast with a menagerie of C-list stars like Melissa Joan Hart, who was once "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch," and Donny Osmond, the singing-dancing-acting "star" who is currently performing with his sister, Marie, in Las Vegas. Sure, there are tons of jokes going around about this, but I think that the most important question is: Can "The Iceman" finally make it out of the first round? At this point in time dancing is probably a better option than fighting. I am not even convinced that if he were to fight again he would not have problems defeating his DWTS competitor, former pop-star, Aaron Carter. You can watch Chuck make a fool of himself starting Monday September 21, @ 8:00 p.m. eastern.

Jordan "Hall of Fame" Pack

September 5, 2009 should be a big day for all of the true Michael Jordan fans out there. As we all know #23 took his rightful place in the NBA Hall of Fame this year. To commemorate this event, Brand Jordan designers have came up with a few different designs of some signature sneakers. The first is the Air Jordan Retro 1, which will retail for $125.00. This sneaker hosts a black leather upper accented by red inner lining, a black patent leather swoosh, white and grey numbers which are meant to represent various moments from Jordan’s career, a white out-sole, and a black patent leather heel. Overall, this pair yields a clean and fresh new variation of a classic model. The second style is the Air Jordan 2009, which will retail for $200.00. This pair hosts a black patent leather toe box and side panel, whereas the out-sole is white, inner lining is red, and the mid-panel features various numbers which are meant to represent various moments from Jordan's career. The final style is the Air Jordan 6 Rings, which will retail for $175.00. This shoe features a black patent leather and canvas base accented by white stitching, a grey outsole, red hits on the heel and inner lining, and a multicolored logo on the tongue. Though the colors are fresh, the most defining aspects of this sneaker are definitely the various numbers seen on the mid-sole which represent various moments in Jordan's career. Make sure to check out your local Deveroes store on September 5 to pick up your pair or pairs.

NBA LIVE 10

Some new kicks have been spotted in the clips of the newest installment of the NBA Live Franchise. Carmello Anthony is wearing the new version of his signature shoe, the Jordan M6, scheduled to release in mid October. The most interesting find is that the creators have already made a point to place Brand Jordan shoes on the freshly signed Brand Jordan team member and perennial all-star Dwayne Wade. They have Dwayne Wade sporting a pair of the Jordan 16.5's, which are scheduled to release in November. The game is scheduled to release on Tuesday October 6, 2009. Keep an eye on this game for looks at even more basketball shoe releases for 2009 and 2010.

Roy Jones Jr. defeats Jeff Lacy by tenth round stoppage!

In a clash of former world champions known for their left hooks, Roy “Captain Hook” Jones, Jr. (54-5, 40 KOs) schooled Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy (25-3, 17 KOs) over ten one-sided rounds on Saturday night at the MS Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi. An extremely sharp Jones methodically battered Lacy, becoming more dominant as the bout progressed. Over the last few rounds Jones landed almost at will. Lacy’s corner mercifully halted the fight after round ten of the scheduled twelve. It was the first time anyone had ever stopped the durable Lacy. The bout was delayed approximately 30 minutes when the Jones and Lacy camps had a disagreement about the gloves. They both ended up wearing Everlast gloves

Converse All Star Leather Hi

Soon you will see a classic style with a new twist. Converse will be releasing the All Star Leather Hi. It is a must have style for any true "shoehead" and it is great to see a new version. The All Star sneaker was first created in 1917. It got a signature patch a few years later. In ’62, it got low, and 4 years after that it came in 7 new colors. After all this time and all this change, it’s still the familiar face made new—again and again and again and again… NOW LEATHER! Shoe should retail for around $65.00. Check back to find specific release information.

Converse All Star Outsider Hi

Look out for these new Converse boots to hit the stores sometime this winter. These boots are something brand new to the Converse line: they have a canvas upper, all-over garment dye, and a lugged rubber outsole. These are considered to be a unisex boot and will be available for both the ladies and men. Keep checking back for exact release date information. When Converse began in the early 1900s, it was known far and wide for quality rubber goods, including boots. Archive inspired, All Star Outsider boots are for tromping and trudging with vintage Converse style. Rubber vulcanized uppers, canvas linings, lugged outsoles and a Chuck Taylor All Star patch, make these utilitarian classics uniquely Converse. Additionally, simple rubber versions of the classic Chuck Taylor All Star shoe also grace the collection in the form of the All Star Rubber Hi. All Star Outsider boots are available in high-top versions and come in black/milk/green, yellow and beech. All Star Rubber Hi shoes are available in high-top versions and come in white/navy/red and black/white. Shoes in this collection have a MSRP of $65 - $80.

Air Jordan DMP 7

Michael Jordan conquered many feats throughout his hall of fame career. I.E.: Championships, MVP trophies, All-Star games, Rookie of the Year, and so on and so forth. He also had several ridiculously high scoring performances where the Chicago Bulls were dragged along on his “coat tail”.

One of these noteworthy performances occurred on January 16th, 1993. The setting, the old Chicago Stadium. The foe, the Orlando Magic. Jordan tallied 64 points (over half of his team’s points) in a nail-biting 128-124 loss! All that for nothing! However, for those that attended and those that watched on TV, his performance will be seared into their memories.

During his recent trail to the Hall of Fame, Jordan brand came out with a tribute to this “defining moment” by releasing the Air Jordan 7 DMP 60+ Pack. This pack is encased by a Chicago Stadium hardwood floor design, containing 2 sets of shoes to reminisce that day.

The black and red were wore by MJ.

While the white and blue are the colors of the Orlando Magic’s uniforms.

These even have elements of the Nike Air Penny 1 tongue and swoosh, but instead of a swoosh, the same pattern is found in the midsole.

Everybody Knows….where these are going to be available!

You better get there with the quickness if you wanna cop these. We don’t anticipate these lasting very long on the shelves, if they even hit the shelves.

Giving Back

On April 3rd, Deveroes donated 3500 socks to Hannah's Socks. We learned that on April 20th, over 800 of the socks donated by Deveroes were distributed to 4 different shelters. Hannah's Socks is a non-profit organization focused on providing clothing necessities to the less fortunate in Toledo, Ohio; Cincinnati, Ohio; and their neighboring communities. Hannah's Socks collects donated materials in the form of men's, women's and children's socks and undergarments, then leverages partnerships with local shelters for distribution to both the homeless and to victims of domestic violence. In addition, they support programs serving under-privileged children.

On a chilly Thanksgiving Day in 2004, 4-year-old Hannah Turner was helping serve dinner to the needy at Toledo's Cherry St. Mission. In the middle of the hustle and bustle of doing her part to fill plates, she tugged on her mother Doris' sweater. "Mommy, won't his feet be cold?" Hannah had focused on a man in line wearing shoes that had split open to reveal he had no socks on, and her small face reflected concern.Doris tried to reassure her: "His shoes will keep his toes warm." She didn't know how they could help with all staff focused on the meal, and she didn't want her daughter carrying a burden. Hannah — too smart, too big of heart — was unconvinced."Mommy, he can have my socks," she said. That next day, Doris took Hannah to purchase and distribute socks to local shelters. They were able to collect and donate over 100 pairs around Toledo. Over two more years, and with amazing support from friends and family, they distributed nearly 10,000 total pairs of socks to partner shelters. Doris and husband Vic quickly discovered that of all the materials donated to shelters, new socks and undergarments are given the least and needed the most. They created Hannah's Socks with the goal of addressing that problem, and they need your help. You can check them out @ http://hannahssocks.org/

Shoe "Collector" vs. Shoe "Head"

Is there a difference bewteen being a shoe "collector" and shoe "head"? Both are important pieces to keeping the shoe game relevant, but in my opinion there is a difference between the two. If your collection looks like the picture posted, then you are definitely a collector. To be a true collector, you need to have unworn pairs within your collection. If you are that guy that goes on the hunt for multiple pairs of the kicks you love, one to wear, and one to save then you are a collector. Shoe "heads", albeit very important to the shoe game, are not the same as a collector. Shoe "heads" are those that make a point to get every shoe that "they" love, but they buy to display the kicks on their feet, not on a shelf or in a closet. Shoe "heads" buy the shoes that they love, whereas a "collector" will even spend the money on the kicks that they may not like themselves, but they recognize what an important piece those kicks will be to their collection. As an employee at a store, you love when either of these customers come through the door, because you know both are big spenders. The difference is that you may never again see the product that you have sold to the shoe "collector", but you know that at some point, maybe not very often, you will see the kicks that you sold the shoe "head".

Deveroes Employee to compete at National Golden Gloves

Donte Strayhorn has been an employee at the Tri-County Deveroes store for a little over a year. He will be graduating from Mt. Healthy High School in June. Donte boxes at Northside Boxing Club. His coach is Giovanni Falcone, who is the Transportation Manager for Deveroes. Donte is currently ranked #7 in the country in the 141lb. weight class. He will be boxing in the National Golden Gloves tournament, which will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah from May 2-9, 2009. Donte's favorite thing besides boxing is collecting "hot kicks". Deveroes has became the perfect job for him to support his habit. His favorite shoe is the Jordan Retro 11 Black/Red.

Thursday, March 26, 2009

It was the year 1992, Deveroes started out with a small store at Swifton Commons, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Most of you now know it as Jordan Crossings. During this time, hip hop fashion was on the rise. It was the day of Karl Kani, Fila, Guess Jeans, Sergio sweatsuits, silk shirts, and leather 8-ball jackets. Of Starter parkas, Discus sweats, canvas K-Swiss, Nautica, Vangrack, Phat Farm, Big Dog tees, and Perry Ellis.

These styles later gave way to Wu-Wear, Mecca, Pelle Pelle, Timberland, Rocawear, and Fubu.

To Mitchell & Ness throwback jerseys, A1's, Velours, and all-over prints. The world of hip-hop fashion has yet to hit it's pinnacle. We have been on the scene since then, and will continue to be here through the new, as the fashions transform right before our eyes. Share your thoughts, comments, and reminisce with us. What was your favorite post 90's period in hip-hop fashion? Can you remember a specific outfit that you had during that time? Where do you think it will go? Only time will tell.
